New ATV Regulations for Massachusetts

The senate has passed a new bill requiring all ATVs, off-road motorcycles and snowmobiles in Massachusetts be registered and all operators to wear helmets. Also, all youth riders must be 14 years or older to operate an ATV or UTV unless they are registered in an sanctioned race supervised by adults over 18. Some other provisions are:

*Riders between the ages of 14-16 can only operate ATVs or UTVS up to 90 cubic centimeters.

*Those born after Jan. 1991 must complete a ATV/UTV complete an safety and responsibility course.

The bill is now on its way to the house of representatives. This bill is the result of a report from The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission that found a 33 percent increase in all ATV-related injuries since 2001.

Many people are angry about this bill. They do not like the State mandating to them what and when their children can ride.

Common sense goes a long way. Teach your children how to ride safely and protect themselves when operating any all terrain vehicle. Just like my dad taught me how to be safe on my dirt bike and I taught my sons how to be safe on theirs. We didn’t need the government to control the situation. The responsibility should lie with the parents not the State.

Pit bikes now have a full race series with several classes. ArenaCross Pro & Amateur Series and the MiniMotoSX in Las Vegas has had 500 bikes showing up to compete. The sport of pit bike racing is growing fast. Whether blasting around your backyard or on a racetrack, you are having an excellent time! Check out the guys below, they made a small community track.

2010 Can-Am GNCC Series is Coming to a Town Near You!

It’s that time of year again and it’s not too late to pre-register your youth ATV racer. For those of you that don’t know, the Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series is America’s foremost off-road racing series produced by Racer Productions, and has been around since 1979. This Series kicks off in River Ranch, FL on Feb. 27th. Check out Youth ATV Racing for the complete schedule, rules, classes, and fees. Another exciting bit of news to announce is the return of the UTV Racing Series to GNCC for a third year in a row!

Youth registration is reasonable starting at $25 for youth ATV racers and up to $40 for amateur racers. ATV racers will be required to become members of either the AMA or the ATVA. Memberships are $39 and are good for one year. Also, all racers need transponders which can be purchased or rented at the event.
